LACY’S HOPE

Impact of Touch in Learning

It is well known that the things we learn as children shape our lives as adults. When we have amazing sensory experiences while we’re young, it has a lasting impact on us for the rest of our lives.

Hope

CARE’s hope is for children to experience the softness of a tiger’s fur that once kept it warm, to know the sensation of a tiger’s whiskers that once guided them, and to feel the points of a tiger’s dagger-sharp claws. These experiences will hopefully fill many young hearts (and those young at heart) with the desire to become active in the plight of the Big Cats.

Education without Danger

CARE proudly presents Lacy’s Hope. This amazing hands-on program will allow people of all ages to touch and feel the perfectly preserved frame and body of a real tiger. Education is one of the core elements of CARE, but for obvious reasons, human interaction with live big cats is dangerous, particularly for children. This new program allows touch and intimate closeness but takes the danger out of the learning experience.

About Lacy

Lacy’s Hope is named after a tiger who lived at CARE for 18 years before she died of old age. She was one of the most beautiful cats to ever bless the sanctuary. In her dying days, many people came to visit her. So many of those close to her during that time commented on how gorgeous she was, how incredibly soft she was, and how much of a shame it would be that no one could ever experience her beauty once she was gone. It became clear that the answer was to let Lacy live on through this extraordinary program. After her death, she was preserved so she could continue to educate, share her beauty, and inspire hope for the future of all Big Cats.
